Inspired by the bronze success of Leyla Shohradova at the World Rapid Championship that ended in Batumi, young Turkmen chess players continue to fight in the blitz championship, according to a press release from the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
We remind that Leyla Shohradova, a schoolgirl from Dyanev etrap, Lebap velayat, achieved historic success by taking third place in the world championship in the category of girls under 16 years old.
In the World Blitz Championship, in which each player is given 3 minutes with an addition of 2 seconds per move, Turkmenistan is represented by the country's 12 best chess players (6 girls and 6 boys).
After 6 rounds, the best result among Turkmen boys and girls with 4 points out of 6 is shown by Leyla's sister Lala Shohradova, performing in the under 18 category, and Alihan Batyrov in the under 10 categories.
Lala is still in 3rd place out of 18 participants, one point behind the leader with 4.5 points Umida Omonova (Uzbekistan). In the 5th round, Lala tied with Umida, who had become the world champion in this category in rapid the day before.
But a student of the 5th Mary school, Alihan Batyrov, shares 10-18th places in a campaign of 62 players and hopes to get higher in the standings during the final five rounds.
We remind that in total about 500 young chess players from 35 countries came to the World Championship.
The team of Turkmenistan is prepared during the competition by experienced specialists - the honored coach of the country Serdar Annaberdiyev and the head of the delegation Sona Jumagulyeva.
