Young people are increasingly choosing to be alone

A study by psychologists from Johannes Gutenberg University (Germany) showed that modern teenagers 14-20 years old are more satisfied with loneliness than their peers a decade ago. This is reported by naukatv.ru with reference to News Medical.

Scientists analyzed data from a long-term study of romantic and family relationships in Germany, covering the periods 2008-2011 and 2018-2021. About 3000 people of different ages took part in it.

The results revealed that teenagers born between 2001 and 2003 are more likely to prefer loneliness and are more satisfied with it than those born ten years earlier. No similar differences were found among adults. Experts attribute this trend to several factors:

- loneliness is no longer perceived as something unusual - the attitude of young people towards romantic conventions has changed - the value of personal independence and self-realization has increased

This trend coincides with a global decline in the number of marriages and an increase in the number of divorces.
