From July 13 to 21, the 17th Asian Chess Championship among schoolchildren was held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). It was attended by 330 young athletes from 17 countries of the Asian and Australian continents, including such chess powers as India, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia.
The tournament was held in three types of time control: classic, fast (rapid) and lightning (blitz). Turkmen chess players showed excellent results in this championship, winning seven medals in different categories, the press service of the country's Chess Federation reports.
Especially the last game day was memorable, when young talents won three medals in a blitz tournament, in which they had to make quick, and even lightning-fast decisions during the game.
The most striking achievement was the gold of Amanmuhammet Hommadov from Ashgabat in the category of boys under 17 (U17).He scored 6,5 points out of 7 possible and climbed to the top step of the podium, brought the first gold medal to Turkmenistan in this championship.
Two silver medals were brought by Gulmira Seyilhanova and Mahri Agamuradova from Turkmenabat in the categories of girls under 15 and 13 respectively.
