World Weightlifting Championship being held in Ashgabat

The World Weightlifting Championship is being held in the Olympic Village of Ashgabat, which will last until November 10, the local TV channel Altyn Asyr reported November 2.

At the opening ceremony, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Tomash Ayan said the World Weightlifting Championship will be held in 20 weight categories for the first time in history.

The head of the IWF expressed the hope that new records will be set during the current competitions.

Applications for participation in the competition from 100 countries (9 African countries, 38 European countries, 29 Asian countries, 15 American countries and 9 countries of Oceania) have been received.

The large-scale project of the Olympic Village in Ashgabat was implemented by the Turkish Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve Sanayi Ticaret A.S. In September 2017, the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held in the Turkmen capital for the first time in the Central Asian region.
