Workshop on innovative tech for rational use of water, energy resources held in Ashgabat

A workshop on mutually beneficial cooperation through innovative technologies in rational use of water-energy resources among Central Asian states was held in Ashgabat under the auspices of the UN on Dec. 17, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The event, which was held in the building of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), was attended by representatives of Central Asia, Afghanistan and international organizations.

The main goal of the workshop was to provide in-depth information on international legislative norms and standards in the field of water and energy cooperation.

Experts from the UK, Canada and the Russian Federation also attended the workshop.

The workshop was aimed at exchanging regional experience in introducing water-saving technologies, accelerating the diverting of the material and technical base of specialized departments of the region to innovations, introducing advanced technologies when using both internal water bodies and transboundary watercourses, Turkmenistan's state news agency wrote in a report.

The UNRCCA was opened in the Turkmen capital in 2007. The center assists the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in building capacity for the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflict prevention through dialogue and attracting international support.
