International experts have completed a comprehensive evaluation of Turkmenistan's national tuberculosis control program. The Ministry of Health in Turkmenistan initiated the study, collaborating with specialists from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Experts visited medical facilities in Ashgabat and the Ahal and Mary velayats, examining the primary healthcare system and the electronic monitoring system for tuberculosis incidence. They focused on prevention, treatment, and interagency collaboration, according to reports from Turkmenistan's official media.
Askar Edilbayev, the WHO regional advisor on tuberculosis, stated that the data collected will facilitate experience sharing within the European region. The evaluation results will help shape Turkmenistan's new National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Control for 2026-2030.
The final report will go to the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan and other interested organizations to improve measures against tuberculosis in the country.
