White canvas by Robert Ryman put up for auction for 1 million euros

A snow-white canvas, valued by experts at 1-1,5 million euros, is up for auction at Ketterer Kunst in Berlin (Germany). We are talking about the work of the American minimalist artist Robert Ryman, created in 1970, Mail.ru reports with reference to the New York Post.

Ryman had no formal art training. He worked as a jazz pianist and security guard at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and took up painting as a hobby.

Ryman, who died in 2019 at the age of 88, was known for his experimental works, mostly in white, many of which sold for millions of dollars.

"White is not always a colour. White makes light, movement and the structure of the material visible. The viewer is challenged and becomes a creator of art," says Simone Wichmann, an expert at the auction house Ketterer Kunst.

Let us remind that crypto billionaire Justin Sun ate a banana purchased at auction for 6,24 million USD.
