Film studio Warner Bros. announced the development of the fifth part of the cult franchise “The Matrix”. Film.ru reports this with reference to Variety.
The director's chair will be taken by Drew Goddard, known for the films "The Cabin in the Woods" and "The Martian." The script will also fall on his shoulders. Lana Wachowski, creator of the original trilogy, will serve as producer.
It is not yet clear whether Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) will return to their roles.
The film studio promises that the fifth part will not only expand the Matrix universe, but will also remain faithful to the spirit of the original.
Let's remember that the first film "The Matrix" was released in 1999 and revolutionized the science fiction genre. It was followed by sequels Reloaded and Revolution (2003). The fourth part, “Resurrection,” was released in 2021, but did not gain approval from either critics or viewers.
