Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that before the month of Ramadan when Muslims are supposed to fast, the number of weddings goes up and meat prices soar.
State-run stores are experiencing a shortage of beef and camel meat is mainly sold. The price for camel meat has soared from 24 manats per kilo to 35 manats whereas its quality has deteriorated.
Private vendors slaughter cattle for sale only when they have customers.The cattle owner makes an announcement through neighbors and relatives that he will be selling beef soon.
People put their names on the waiting list and indicate how much meat they need.When there are enough customers, the vendor announces the sale date.In this case a kilo of meat will cost 60 to 65 manats whereas a kilo of beef fillet is sold at 80 manats.
Meanwhile, vendors at Dashoguz markets have increased prices for beef from 70 to 76 manats and in velayat etraps from 60 to 68 manats.
Those families who are preparing for weddings say that they need 100 kilos of meat on average for the feast.
Goats and sheep weighing 28 to 30 kilos cost 2000 manats.
It was previously reported that the increase in the price for fodder results in the price hike for meat.
