Uzbek President Stresses Importance of Expanding Inter-Parliamentary Ties With Turkmenistan

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday in a meeting with Gulshat Mammedova, the Chairperson of the Mejlis chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh, stressed the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The meeting took place within the visit of Gulshat Mammedova to Uzbekistan to take part in Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament taking place these days in the city of Tashkent, according to statement by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The Mejlis Speaker Mammedova conveyed greetings and best wishes of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Head of Uzbekistan.

President Mirziyoyev noted with deep satisfaction the current high level of Uzbek-Turkmen relations based on the strong bonds of friendship and good neighborliness, trust and strategic partnership.

The sides underscored the important role of the two nations' parliaments in expanding the multifaceted cooperation, advancing joint projects of cooperation and cultural and humanitarian exchange program.

The parties highly appreciated productive cooperation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union and effective dialogue platforms in the Central Asian region.

The 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament takes place in Uzbek capital on September 8-9. The event is organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of Uzbekistan.
