UNICEF donated equipment for the prevention of infections to the Ministry of Healthcare of Turkmenistan

UNICEF purchased and delivered medical equipment to the Center for Public Health and Nutrition of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.These are: 17,000 biohazard waste bags and 15,000 safety boxes to enhance effective infection control and safe waste management, as well as 2,000 pediatric blood pressure monitors for equipment in pediatric wards and intensive care units.

This action took place in support of the implementation of the National Plan for Preparedness and Response to Acute Infectious Diseases. UNICEF Deputy Representative Alexandru Nartea said:

As noted in a press release from the organization, UNICEF will continue to prioritize support to the Government of Turkmenistan in ensuring the continuity of essential services for children as part of the implementation of the national preparedness and response plan, as well as the plan of operational socio-economic measures in Turkmenistan to counter an acute infectious disease.

Since the start of the pandemic response in early 2020, UNICEF and partners have provided life-saving supplies and financial/technical support to 153 countries and territories. Vital health, nutrition, education, child protection, water, sanitation and hygiene services reach 261 million children.
