UNDP and the British Embassy will provide support to bar associations in Turkmenistan

On May 14, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the British Embassy in Turkmenistan signed a Contribution Agreement to support the project “Increasing the capacity of bar associations in Turkmenistan”.

The project will assist bar associations in Turkmenistan in providing legal assistance in accordance with international standards.

Particular attention will be paid to assisting in the creation of the National Chamber of Lawyers of Turkmenistan in order to represent and protect the interests of lawyers.The National Chamber will deal with issues of coordinating the activities of bar associations in the regions and the city of Ashgabat, providing high-quality legal assistance from lawyers, and resolving issues affecting the interests of the legal community.

The project will contribute to the implementation of a special section of the National Human Rights Action Plan for 20212025 entitled “Improving the system of bar associations”, which is aimed at improving legislation on the legal profession and access to legal services, ensuring equality of parties in legal proceedings.
