At the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi praised Turkmenistan's leadership for its efforts in eradicating statelessness.

According to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country's delegation at the event was led by Amandurdy Sazakov, Head of the State Migration Service, and Vepa Hajiev, Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva.

During the first panel session, Vepa Hajiev highlighted that on September 24, 2024, Turkmenistan successfully concluded a campaign aimed at fully eradicating statelessness, initiated by Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Amandurdy Sazakov added that over 32,000 individuals had been granted Turkmen citizenship, while more than 5,000 were issued residence permits. These actions underscore Turkmenistan’s commitment to human rights and its fulfillment of international obligations.
