UN agencies in Turkmenistan and young SDG Ambassadors outline plans for the year

The young SDG ambassadors discussed priority areas of joint cooperation with UN agencies, and identified strategic priorities for 2021.

The purpose of the online meeting is to discuss the participation of young people in activities aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan and play its role in the implementation of the UN Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development.

During the online meeting, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, IOM, and UNODC presented their priorities for this year, as well as a vision of how young SDG ambassadors can support the UN country team in achieving the goals.

For example, in 2021, UNICEF youth activities will focus on areas such as disaster risk reduction, climate change, awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic risks, and the organization’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

“Currently, young SDG ambassadors participate in high-level events held in Turkmenistan, where they present their vision and promote sustainable development and its core principle of leaving no one behind’,” said Mrs. Christine Weigand, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
