Digital technologies are changing the face of modern sports. Esports, which is actively developing all over the world, has become an integral part of it. Turkmenistan has not remained aloof from this global trend and has already achieved impressive results. Recently, the first ever women's esports team was formed in the country, reports the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
Esports disciplines made their debut in Turkmenistan in 2017 within the framework of the V Asian Indoor Games held in Ashgabat. Then they were presented in demo format. In the same year, the National Electronic Sports Federation (TMESF) was founded to popularize this sport among Turkmen youth.
The captain of the women's team, Elena Bashimova, spoke about the prospects for the development of esports in Turkmenistan. According to her, esports is distinguished by a variety of gaming situations that require the highest concentration, as well as a close-knit community of athletes who follow industry trends.
Since 2022, TMESF began to actively adopt the experience of neighboring countries in the field of women's esports. The creation of a national team is a landmark event that opens up new opportunities on the international stage.
Elena Bashimova also added that the women's team is currently preparing for the upcoming Federation Cup, and after that they will make every effort at the qualifying games of the World Esports Championship (world championship), which will be held in Riyadh and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
