On instructions from President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a Turkmen delegation led by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan paid a working visit to the United Arab Emirates on February 2-4, 2021.
A series of constructive meetings were held with the leaders of the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
On February 2, the Deputy Foreign Minister met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest with the objective of strengthening the cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions culminated in the signing of the following bilateral documents:
The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (on funding projects in Turkmenistan);
The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (on establishing investment companies);
The Memorandum of Understanding on Funding Potential Projects in Turkmenistan between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, acting on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
On February 3, the Turkmen delegation had a meeting with Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency Francesco La Camera.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IRENA with the aim of enhancing the collaboration in the field of sustainable use of renewable energy sources and ensuring energy security.
A meeting with Executive Director of the Expo 2020 Bureau Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali on February 4 discussed organizational issues concerning the participation of representatives of Turkmenistan in this large-scale event scheduled for October 2021.
