Turkmenistan to Upgrade Altyn Asyr Mobile Operator’s Cellular Network

The Türkmenaragatnaşyk (Turkmen Communications) Agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan will conclude contracts with foreign companies for the further development of the cellular communication network of the local mobile operator Altyn Asyr.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Resolution authorizing the signing of the contracts on Wednesday, the country’s official media reports.

Türkmenaragatnaşyk will sign the contract with Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. for the purchase of equipment, software and licenses, transportation, installation, commissioning and technical support for the development of Altyn Asyr’s cellular network in Ahal, Balkan and Dashoguz velayats and the city of Ashgabat.

The Turkmen Agency will also conclude a similar agreement with Finland-based Nokia Solutions and Networks Oy for the development of Altyn Asyr’s cellular communication network in Lebap and Mary velayats.

This Resolution was prepared in order to further improve the work on the implementation of the Concept for the development of the digital economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025, according to the report.

In September this year, Türkmenaragatnaşyk signed a contract with the UAE-based Beat Trade FZE for the modernization of the multiservice data transmission network, and provision of technical support.
