Turkmenistan to Create Center For Water Resources Management in Kerki

A permanent center for water resources management will be created in the city of Kerki in Turkmenistan’s eastern province of Lebap.

The instructions on the creation of the center were given by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Annageldy Yazmyradov, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government in charge of the agro-industrial complex, during the online meeting on the agricultural issues on Monday, the country’s official media reports.

The Head of State stressed the need for proper irrigation of crops at this time, to carry out quality plowing of the land, to attach great importance to the quality of seed material, rational use of water for irrigation.

The solution of these issues should be approached taking into account the achievements of modern science and agricultural traditions of ancestors, President Berdimuhamedov stated.

Focusing on the creation of the new center, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said the off-site meetings of the center will be held taking into account the volume of water reserves.

The Head of State also instructed the Vice-Premier to continue operating the agricultural sector at the proper level, improve the water supply to crops, properly maintain channels, streams and reservoirs.

On June 11, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution on establishing the the Governmental Commission on Water Supply of Turkmenistan.

The new entity oversees the efficiency and rationality of use of water resources, increase of their reserves, analysis of Amudarya and Karakum rivers and improvement of their water flow as well as supply of population with clean drinking water through construction of desalination plants.
