Turkmenistan Successfully Pursues Foreign Policy Strategy Based on Principles of Peacefulness

Turkmenistan successfully develops relations of friendship and constructive cooperation, both in bilateral and multilateral formats, in the context of implementing the Concept of the Foreign Policy Course for 2017-2023.

A telling example of that are the outcomes of foreign visits that were made during the reporting period by the head of state, as well as of the visits to Turkmenistan by several foreign heads of state and leaders of reputable international organizations, including the UN Secretary-General, stated the Vice Premier, head of the MFA, Rashid Meredov, during the expanded cabinet session that reviewed the outcomes of 2017.

As of today, Turkmenistan has established diplomatic relations with 145 countries of the world, while our country’s embassies and consulates function in 38 of them. 35 diplomatic representatives of foreign countries and 15 country offices of international organizations have been accredited in Ashgabat.

Our country is a member to 145 international conventions, to 6 of which it acceded in the past year.

In 2017, 584 delegations of different levels visited our country. At the same time, 624 delegations were sent abroad. 235 events conferences, meetings etc. were organized in Turkmenistan and outside the country. In the period under review, 47 consultations were held between foreign ministries, 226 international documents were drafted and signed.

18 sessions of joint Intergovernmental Commissions and 14 bilateral business forums were held. These events are of specific significance in strengthening commercial and economic ties, cultural and humanitarian contacts with foreign partners.

Stressing Turkmenistan’s ongoing commitment to the constructive foreign policy based on the status of permanent neutrality, principles of peacefulness and good-neighborliness, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the importance of continued systematic work towards optimal use of the existing potential and possibilities for the further strengthening of effective cooperation in priority fields.

The head of state noted that Turkmenistan will continue to contribute to international efforts towards ensuring global peace, security and sustainable development.
