Turkmenistan Sends Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan

By order of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan on Wednesday sent a humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which became the first humanitarian delivery of the Turkmen side to Afghanistan after the recent developments on its territory.

The delivery contains medicines, protective clothing for medical personnel and medical supplies, disinfectants, medicinal solutions, protective masks, surgical gloves, resources and drugs for the treatment of coronavirus infection for the needs of the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

The delivery ceremony of the humanitarian aid took place in the village of Turgundi in Herat province with the participation of the provincial leaders of the region, and members of the Turkmen diaspora. The Afghan side expressed gratitude to the leadership and people of Turkmenistan, who provide regular support to the neighboring country.

By making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of neighboring Afghanistan through the implementation of promising projects in the field of energy, transport and communications, Turkmenistan continues to maintain close international cooperation in the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its statement.

On Tuesday, Turkmen officials and authorized representatives of the Herat province of Afghanistan held a meeting at the Serhetabat-Turgundi checkpoint. The parties discussed the reinforcing of operation, in particular, increasing cargo passing through the checkpoint, and assistance in the provision of the necessary medical equipment.
