Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi Refinery Works to Produce Import-Substituting Products

Deputy Chairman of the cabinet of Turkmenistan Shahym Abdyrahmanov, overseeing the country's oil and gas industry, in a government meeting on Tuesday briefed the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the works carried out at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries (TCOR) to produce import-substituting products.

Abdyrahmanov said the products planned for production at Turkmenistan’s major refinery include semi-synthetic lubricating motor oils, fuel for ships, aluminum-reinforced polypropylene-based microfilm for packaging of food, medical and industrial goods, as well as for design works, the country’s official media reports.

Following the report, the Head of State instructed the Vice-Premier to keep under constant control the practical implementation of the outlined plans.

In October this year, the refinery announced an international tender for the design, construction and commissioning of a hydrogen production unit.

Established in 1943, the TCOR located in the country’s coastal velayat of Balkan is one of the leading oil refineries in the region.

The complex is engaged in the processing of oil and gas condensate, the production of different oil and petrochemical products, including polypropylene and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and their further sale in the domestic and foreign markets.
