Turkmenistan’s Foreign Trade Surges 41.8% in Past Five Months

The foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan in the first five months of 2022 increased by 41.8% year-on-year, the Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government in charge of economic and financial issues Muhammetguly Muhammedov announced in his report during the joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Security Council hosted by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Saturday.

In his report on macroeconomic indicators for January-May of this year, Muhammedov informed that the volume of production compared to the same period last year increased by 11.5%.

The retail trade turnover saw a year-on-year increase of 10.6%, according to the Turkmen official media reports.

Following the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to control the efficient use of state investments, modernization of existing industries and the establishment of new ones, creating an enabling environment to attract capital investment and business, and foreign direct investment.

Turkmenistan's GDP growth over the last five months amounted to 6.2%.
