Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Meets with Josep Borrell

Rashid Meredov, Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in Brussels, Belgium, on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions covered bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The meeting particularly emphasized strengthening relations between Central Asia and the European Union. Prospective areas of collaboration highlighted included energy, transportation, digitalization, education, and climate.

Additionally, Rashid Meredov and Josep Borrell underscored the importance of existing mechanisms for bilateral cooperation, such as the EU-Turkmenistan Joint Committee and inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The parties also discussed organizing another meeting of EU and Central Asia foreign ministers in Turkmenistan later this year.

From March 17th to 19th, 2024, the Turkmen delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov conducted a working visit to Belgium.
