Turkmenistan’s Customs Office purges staff

On 2 November the head of the Lebap velayat customs office was severely reprimanded and his deputy was dismissed. Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that at least 2 persons were reduced to a lower rank and transferred from the border check point “Farab-avtozorozhniy” to other stations.

According to a rank-and-file customs officer, the cleansing and managerial restructuring is related to online publications of the cargo transported through the border without a relevant inspection.

Let us recall that “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously found out that heavy duty trucks run though Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on a regular basis.

Accompanying documents with the comment “forbidden for inspection” were signed by the President’s elder sister Gulnabat Dovletova.

Following the incident, at the session of the Security Council held on 5 November, 2019 President Gurbanguly Berdymukahmmedov instructed imposing order and streamlining procedures at Turkmenistan’s customs.
