It has become known to “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” that the number of domestic flights operated by Turkmenistan’s airlines is being reduced.
From the beginning of this week, flights between the cities of Mary and Dashoguz have been cancelled altogether. They used to be operated twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays.
The number of daily flights from Dashoguz to Ashgabat has been reduced from six to three flights. Airline employees explain this by insufficient travelers on the flights. However, they claim that the cancellation of flights is temporary.
At the same time, according to the state information agency TDH, Turkmenistan’s Airlines purchased a new Boeing-737-800.
According to the media outlet, this is the third aircraft purchased from the US-based company pursuant to the aircraft supply contract concluded in 2014.
According to the news outlet “Turkmenistan: golden age”, in the course of implementation of the “National Program for the Development of Turkmenistan’s Civil Aviation for 2012-2030” the number of aircraft will be increased which will open new air routes from Ashgabat to Milan (Italy), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Tehran (Iran), Tbilisi (Georgia), Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and others.
At the same time, it should be mentioned that Turkmenistan’s Airlines announced the launching in 2016-2017 of seven new routes from Ashgabat to Dushanbe, Kiev, Tehran, Milan, Bishkek, Tbilisi, Astrakhan and Kazan.
As of today, only the flight bound to Kazan, which is just a quarter occupied, is operational.
Moreover, the flights operated by Turkmenistan’s Airlines to Riga, Toronto and Kuala-Lumpur had already been cancelled.
