Turkmenistan-Russia Trade Up 58% From January to July

The trade volume between Turkmenistan and Russia grew by 58 percent in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk reported during a meeting of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as covered by Turkmenistan's official media on Thursday.

The event also included Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

"Our mutual trade is showing a positive trend. By the end of the first seven months of this year, the trade turnover in value terms has increased by 58%. This is a significant achievement, and we aim to sustain this growth," Overchuk stated.

He also mentioned that a draft economic cooperation program for 20252027, which aims to leverage the economic potential between Russia and Turkmenistan, is in its final stages of approval.

The next meeting of the commission, set for early next year, will address the implementation of existing agreements and outline future plans.

The meeting, co-chaired by Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, and Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, took place in both narrow and expanded formats. Discussions focused on key areas of cooperation and prospects for joint projects in sectors like transport and energy.

Special attention was also given to enhancing cultural and humanitarian ties, particularly in healthcare, science, and education.

The previous session of the intergovernmental commission was held on December 7, 2022, in Moscow.
