On June 5, construction resumed on the section of the Akina-Andkhoy railway in Afghanistan. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan today.
"On June 5, 2022, engineers and railway specialists of Turkmenistan arrived in the city of Akina to continue the construction of the Akina-Andkhoy railway line. Turkmen specialists also brought all the required machinery and equipment," the message says.
The laying of the branch line is made under an agreement signed earlier between the Agency "Turkmen Railways" and the Organization of Railways of Afghanistan.
The Akina-Andkhoy branch line is a part of the first trans-Afghan railway corridor.Its construction began on July 25, 2019.On January 14, 2021, the opening ceremony of the 30-kilometer section of the Akina-Andkhoy railway took place.
But 800 meters of the branch line was not completed for a number of reasons.According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one of them is a pandemic of coronavirus infection.
It is expected that the remaining part of the railway track will be laid within one month.
