Turkmenistan.ru reported on 1 September that U.S.Ambassador to Turkmenistan Allan Mustard awarded a grant in the amount of $72 560 to the Government of Turkmenistan to preserve, study and protect historical and cultural sites of Turkmenistan to restore the Dayahatyn caravansaray.
The US Embassy in Ashgabat reports that two weeks prior to that, on August 14, 2017, Allan Mustard celebrated the completion of a joint project with the Museum of Fine Arts in Ashgabat to restore and reconstruct ancient mosaic panels from Turkmenistan’s archaeological site at Gonur Depe.
A total of 25 cultural and historical preservation projects worth more than $1,5 mln have been conducted in Turkmenistan.
As Ambassador Mustard said at the event,“Turkmenistan has received more of these grants than any other country in the world”.
Dayahatyn is a medieval caravansaray, the ruins of which are located 170 kilometers from the city of Turkmenabad in Turkmenistan. This is an archeological site which dates back to the XI—XII centuries.
Gonur Tepe (translated from Turkmen as grey hill) is the Bronze Age settlement, located in the south-east of Turkmenistan, which dates back to 2300 BC.
