Turkmenistan puts forward an idea to hold World Cycling Championship in 2019

Two days after the President instructed to organize No Vehicle Day on 3 June in Turkmenistan in honour of the World Bicycle Day, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov held an extended government session focused on the development of sport.

The President of the Russian Cycling Federation and a three time Olympic gold medalist Vyachelav Yekimov, who was invited as a guest to the meeting, put forward an idea to hold the World Cycling Championship in Turkmenistan in 2019.

“Yekimov emphasized that the most important thing is that the President of Turkmenistan, who on a regular basis organizes bicycle racing events and personally participates in them, pays special attention to cycling”, — the state information agency TDH reports.

The news outlet says that the Russian Cycling Federation and international group “ARETI” are ready to create “opportunities to engage youth in cycling with a view of establishing teams which will represent Turkmenistan in international competitions”.
