Turkmenistan purchases Italian military aircraft

As has been previously reported, on 3 May President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov inspected new samples of military equipment, purchased by Turkmenistan.

The news outlet Jane’s 360 identified aircraft showcased in Altyn Asyr TV broadcast.

The advanced jet trainer, which the head of the state tested, turned out to be Alenia M-346 Master.

The Italian tactical airlifter Alenia C-27J Spartan was also demonstrated.

The news outlet mentions that Turkmenistan has already procured Italian military equipment, for instance Selex Falco unmanned aerial vehicle and Agusta AW109 helicopter.

According to Jane’s World Air Forces, given the economic weakness, problems with recruiting qualified personnel, and recurring waves of politically motivated purges inside the service, the condition and quality of the air force is poor and seems set to remain so for the foreseeable future.

The news outlet is concerned by large investments to procure such armaments as Turkmenistan has no financial means to develop robust air force.

It should be emphasized that the Turkmen satellite launched in 2015 had also been made by the French-Italian Thales Alenia Space.
