Turkmenistan prepares the fourth national report on climate change

Issues of preparation of the Fourth national report of Turkmenistan on climate change and the Biennial report of the country within the Framework Convention on Climate Change, (UN FCCC) were discussed during the last working meeting at national level.

These strategic documents are developed for Turkmenistan with support of the UN Development Program (UNDP) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) within the limits of the project “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza”.

In the session which was held by means of online communication, representatives of various ministries and departments, and also the international organisations working in Turkmenistan took part.

Participants familiarised with the maintenance and specificity of preparation of the fourth national report of Turkmenistan on climate change and the biennial report to UNFCCC.Documents will prepare taking into account results of previous researches and estimations, and also new supervising principles of UNFCCC.

The special accent will be made on assistance to process of inclusion of issues of climate change in national ecological planning and strategy.

Experts in such basic direction of the national report as inventory of greenhouse gases presented the information on new supervising principles of national inventory. Results of inventory will allow defining priority lines of activity on decrease in volume of emissions and increasing in drains of greenhouse gases, and also attraction of modern technologies and investments into this area.

So, preparation of the fourth national report will allow to develop the national strategy of reduction of greenhouse gases, estimations of vulnerability and adaptation to climate change; to continue work on awareness increase, increase of educational level and distribution of the information concerning climate change; to promote expansion of scientific researches in all directions, connected with climate change; to create and strengthen institutional, scientific and technical, information potentials.

Participants also discussed contributions defined at national level (NDC) by the Parisian Agreement.
