At the session of the Cabinet of Ministers held on 5 March acting President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov announced that the large-scale campaign to plant seedlings on the occasion of Nowruz will be held on 20 March.
It was previously reported that the clean-up campaign would be held on 19 March. This year a total of 3 million seedlings (1,5 million in Ashgabat and 1,5 million in velayats) of deciduous, coniferous and fruits trees as well as grape vines will be planted across the country.
It appears that the campaign was rescheduled because the inauguration of President-elect will be held on 19 March.
Employees of organizations and companies of all forms of ownership are obliged to take part in the initiative.
According to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, it has been very rainy cold and damp in Ashgabat and cases of seasonal colds and flu are on the rise. Even those who have had their flu shots and have been vaccinated twice or three times are diagnosed with acute respiratory viral infections.
If it still rains, residents will be sent to collect garbage from pavements and on the сompany premises.
Foreign diplomatic missions are also joining the clean-up campaign. For instance, on 15 March the UK Embassy in Turkmenistan reported that Ambassador Lucia Wilde together with volunteers and NGO representatives had planted over 80 trees near the Embassy building.
The campaign is held not only to welcome the arrival of spring but also prevent climate change.
