Turkmenistan plans to hold the Asian Boxing Championship

Turkmenistan is increasing its efforts to develop boxing in the country and strives to achieve the first Olympic awards in this sport. According to the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC), Turkmenistan is an up-and-coming boxing nation whose athletes are demonstrating increasing levels of skill.

Leading boxers of Turkmenistan - Shukur Ovezov (57 kg), Saparmyrat Odaev (63.5 kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (71 kg) - will take part in the 2nd World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Boxing, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 23 until June 3. At this prestigious tournament, tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are awarded.

The head coach of the Turkmenistan national team, Tenilbek Jumakulov, has formed strong junior, youth, reserve and main teams over the past two years.Secretary General of the country's Boxing Federation Durdymammet Kuljaev said that the national federation plans to hold domestic competitions in June or September of this year, as well as send boxers to as many international tournaments as possible.

Moreover, Turkmenistan is considering the possibility of organizing an Asian boxing championship in the near future. According to Kuljaev, the federation is negotiating with ASBC on this issue. Holding such a prestigious continental tournament will be an important milestone in the development of boxing in Turkmenistan.
