Turkmenistan Participates in International Climate Conference COP29 in Baku

A delegation from Turkmenistan joined the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which opened on November 11 in Baku and will continue until November 22, as reported by Turkmenistan's official media.

Baku expects around 70,000 foreign guests, including representatives from nearly 200 countries, who have come to discuss key climate agenda issues.

The summit will commence with a large opening ceremony at the Baku Olympic Stadium, followed by a two-day Summit of World Leaders on Climate Action. Approximately 80 heads of state and government will present their visions for addressing climate challenges.

Organizers have divided the conference into two main areas. The Blue Zone will host official negotiations and key decision-making, while the Green Zone will serve as a venue for exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. The agenda will pay special attention to regional issues, including water resource shortages and the development of renewable energy.

Since its establishment in 1995, the Conference of the Parties has sought to monitor global progress in the fight against climate change. Among the key documents addressed at prior meetings, the 2015 Paris Agreement occupies a significant position, receiving endorsement from 195 countries, including Turkmenistan.
