Representatives of the Türkmendemirýollary (“Turkmenistan Railways”) Agency took part for the first time in the meeting of the leaders of the 16th session of the General Assembly of the Intergovernmental Organization for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF), which was held from September 25 to 26 in Bern, Swiss Confederation. The goal of the forum is to activate export, import and transit cargo turnover through international transport corridors.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the activation of international transport corridors connecting Europe and Asia, solving problems and simplifying conditions by analyzing the norms of international law.
Taking into account the advantageous geographical position of Turkmenistan, a number of negotiations were held to increase export, import and transit cargo turnover along the international transport corridors passing through the country.
OTIF Secretary General Wolfgang Küpper noted that the Central International Transport Corridor plays an important role in ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods between Europe and Asia, and he is familiar with the wide capabilities of the Turkmenbashy International Port.
Taking into account the importance of international multimodal transport corridors running through the territory of Turkmenistan, the Secretary General stated that the goal of creating a long-term strategy is the transit of the bulk of cargo between Europe and the People's Republic of China through Turkmenistan.
Wolfgang Küpper expressed a desire to directly participate in the activities of the transport sector of Turkmenistan.
