Turkmenistan More Than Doubles Natural Gas Exports to Azerbaijan

Turkmenistan supplied Azerbaijan with 732 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas in the period of January to June 2023. This volume of gas imports is more than double the amount received during the same period last year, which was 292 mcm, according to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan data.

In terms of monetary value, these gas imports from Turkmenistan were worth $109.18 million, which is over three times higher than the value during the same period last year, which was $31.8 million.

Azerbaijan currently imports Turkmen natural gas in accordance with the trilateral gas swap agreement between Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan. In June 2022, Iran and Azerbaijan agreed to double the annual gas swaps from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan via the Iranian pipeline system.

Last year, Turkmenistan exported 857.67 mcm of gas to Azerbaijan for $110.871 million.
