Turkmenistan Looks to Organize Investment Forum in London

The second Structured Dialogue between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and United Kingdom took place on February 22-23 in Ashgabat. Among the topics discussed during the first day of the meeting was the potential holding of an Investment Forum of Turkmenistan in London, according to the press releases issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation at the meeting was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev, while the British delegation was led by Justin Mackenzie Smith, Assistant Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate of the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.

The sides exchanged views on such issues as bilateral relations and regional policy, trade-economic cooperation.

The parties also exchanged views on the two countries' positions on the situation in Afghanistan and discussed cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Focusing on trade relations, the sides stressed the need for further steps to increase the volume of mutual trade using the potential of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council (TUKTIC) and discussed the possibility of organizing an Investment Forum of Turkmenistan in London.

The second day of the dialogue considered possibilities of further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection. The parties also discussed cooperation in the field of security and other areas of mutual interest.
