June 17 is World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. To this day, the poster contest #HerLand #HerRights has been launched in Turkmenistan.
The competition was announced by the UNDP jointly with the Society for the Protection of Nature of Turkmenistan, the organizations “Tebigy kuvvat”, “Eco-durmush” and “Ynanch vepa”.
The purpose of the creative competition is to draw public attention to the environmental problems of desertification, depletion of soil fertility and land degradation and to demonstrate the consequences of land degradation and water scarcity for the population, especially for women.
The competition is part of the #HerLand global campaign launched by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to educate the public about the contribution of women and girls to sustainable land management and mobilize efforts to advance women's land rights around the world.
The competition accepts posters or other printed materials that will include a description of forests as important ecosystems and will demonstrate the role of women and girls in efforts to restore land and combat drought. Posters can include infographics, tables, photos, or drawings.
The competition is held from June 17 to July 10.

The ceremony of awarding the winners of the competition with prizes and certificates will be held in the UN building on August 12 (Youth Day).The winners of the competition will also be invited to participate in the environmental campaign dedicated to the International Day of Forests on March 21, 2024.
The selected works will be part of an exhibition organized as part of an environmental action dedicated to the role of women in the fight against desertification in the context of climate change.
