Turkmenistan and Japan are strategic partners, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency quoted President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as saying.
The Turkmen president was addressing a meeting with Tatsuya Watanabe, president of Plant & Infrastructure Company at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.
“The development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the long term is a priority of the foreign policy of our country,” he said.
Berdimuhamedov noted that this is due to a long tradition of friendship between the two states and business interest, backed by enormous resource and economic potential.
Watanabe, for his part, pointed out that Japan’s business circles aim at actively cooperating with Turkmenistan.
He further informed about the progress made in the construction of a plant to produce gasoline from natural gas in the Ahal region.
This major investment project is being implemented jointly with the Turkish Ronesans Holding. The total project cost is $1.7 billion.
The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2018.
