Turkmenistan Intensifies Measures to Prevent Spread of Infectious Diseases

Due to the worsening coronavirus pandemic situation worldwide, Turkmenistan will carry out measures aimed at intensifying the prevention of infectious diseases.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday chaired a meeting of the Emergency Commission to Combat the Spread of Diseases, which discussed issues of ensuring the safety of citizens of the country and identified the priority tasks to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s official media reports.

Opening the meeting, Turkmen President noted that in connection with the worsening coronavirus pandemic situation worldwide, it was decided to hold a meeting of the Emergency Commission. He added that today, new mutations of the coronavirus are being detected in different states with over 14 thousand new strains already registered in the world.

Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry, Chairman of the Emergency Commission Nurmuhammet Amannepesov then reported on the implemented measures to prevent the importation and spread of COVID-19 in the country.

He noted that due to the instability of the global epidemiological situation and the identification of different new strains of the virus, the country has strengthened measures to control citizens arriving from foreign countries, adding that they are being monitored in quarantine centers upon arrival to the country.

The issues of compliance with sanitary standards at international airports, railway stations, all types of transport, shopping centers, markets, public catering establishments, educational institutions of Ashgabat and velayats are under strict control, he noted.

Today, in the countries of the world, the coronavirus pandemic situation continues to remain complex, Nurmuhammet Amannepesov continued, adding that this is the result of inadequate compliance with sanitary standards and rules for combating the spread of diseases.

According to media reports and the World Health Organization, new mutated strains of COVID-19 have appeared recently that are aggressive, spread quickly, have a difficult course and are very difficult to treat. The reason for this is the movement of citizens around the world, the Minister told in his report.

According to the Chairman of the Emergency Commission, in connection with the abovementioned and the difficult global coronavirus situation, it is necessary to strengthen the effective preventive measures implemented in Turkmenistan.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that "the health of the people is the wealth of the country." In order to carry out the next stage of measures aimed at intensifying the prevention of infectious diseases, the Turkmen Leader outlined a number of priority tasks.

The Head of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of organizing mandatory quarantine for citizens arriving from abroad for 21 days, and then further monitoring them at home. Along with this, the vaccination of the population against COVID-19 should be continued and the purchase of foreign drugs against coronavirus infection should be carried out, the President Berdimuhamedov said.

Turkmen President also addressed different instructions for intensifying measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Instructing ministries, sectoral departments, as well as enterprises and institutions, regardless of the form of ownership, to strictly implement the decisions of the Emergency Commission of Turkmenistan to Combat the Spread of Diseases, Turkmen President told to regularly report on this issue.

President Berdimuhamedov also instructed Ministry of Finance and Economy to allocate funds for the purchase of the necessary vaccines for the population of the country.

According to WHO data, Turkmenistan has no confirmed coronavirus cases.
