Turkmenistan intends to lay two new fiber-optic data transmission lines to Iran and Kazakhstan, according to the article by Mammetkhan Chakyev, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, published in the Neytralnyi Turkmenistan newspaper on Monday.
Turkmenistan envisages improvement of existing and building of new interstate fiber-optic data transmission lines. These lines will be laid between Garabogaz settlement in Balkan province and Temir Baba settlement the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as between Etrek in Balkan province and Kummet Kovus in Iran, Chakiyev stated.
The Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Azerbaijan has signed an agreement on joint construction, ownership and use of fiber-optic communication system along the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan route through the communication operators of the two countries.
According to the report, the implementation of this project will connect the cities of Turkmenbashi and Siyazan, and will also strengthen cooperation in improving telecommunication bridges between Asia and Europe.
The State Program for the Development of Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 and the Action Plan for its implementation were approved by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan dated February 12, 2021.
The Plan defines specific directions, executors and deadlines for activities related to amendments to existing regulations, the transition to the digital economy, the creation of the Electronic Government system, the improvement of the digital medical system, the training of specialists in these areas, and the phased placement of digital services on the portal of public services e.gov.tm.
