Turkmenistan Increases Excise Tax on Tobacco Products Imported from Abroad

Turkmenistan has increased excise rates on cigarettes and other tobacco products imported from abroad and now amounts to 181.25% of the customs value, but not less than $7.81 per pack. This is stated in amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan, the text of the document was published in the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

“4) in the column “Excise rates” of the table of Article 119:

In the section “For goods imported into the customs territory of Turkmenistan”:

In the part “Tobacco products” the figures “145%” and “6.25” shall be replaced by the figures “181.25%” and “7.81” respectively;

In the part “Other industrially manufactured tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes” the figure “30.5” shall be replaced by the figure “38.13”;”, the document says.

It should be noted that the excise tax rate on other tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes has also been increased from $30.5 per kg to $38.13 per kg.

This law shall come into force on January 1, 2025.

In February 2022, Turkmenistan adopted a national program for 2022-2025 aimed at achieving a tobacco-free country.
