On the occasion of the Memorial Day in Turkmenistan, a flower-laying ceremony took place in the Halk Hakydasy (People's Memory) Memorial Complex in Ashgabat on Wednesday, the country’s official media reports.
The Memorial Day is timed to coincide with the date of October 6, when a powerful earthquake hit the capital of Turkmenistan in 1948, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
Every year on October 6, Turkmen people also pay tribute to the defenders of the Goktepe fortress and those who lost lives on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The ceremony was also attended by the heads of chambers of the bicameral Turkmen parliament Milli Gengesh, the government members, heads of the military and law enforcement agencies, the Mayor of Ashgabat, the heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations in the country, the representatives of political parties, elders and youth.
The ceremony followed with the sadaqah meal given in memory of the victims of 1948 Ashgabat earthquake and heroes list in battlefields. The Head of Turkmenistan also took pat in the sadaqah at the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex .
