On 31 March President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko opened the Garlyk mining and refining facility in Lebap velayat.
However, quoting the Belarus Deputy Prime Minister the information agency Telegraf.by reports that Turkmenistan has not settled accounts with Belarus.
“Belarus has fulfilled its obligations on commissioning the facility and now we are expecting the final payment in order to make subsequent payments to subcontractors and suppliers of materials”, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoliy Kalinin reported on 10 May, after the session of the Belarus-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
He mentioned that Belarus will continue to support the project by training specialists for Garlyk mining and refining facility and might participate in the construction of the second potassium mine based on the Karabil field in Turkmenistan.
Let us recall that on 22 April the leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that he had been invited to build the second mining and refining facility, the tender for which had been announced on 17 April.
The eight session of the Belarus-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is being held in Minsk on May 10-12. During the visit the members of the Turkmen delegation will visit such Belarus companies as ZAO “Shtadler Minsk”, the group of companies “Minsktrans”, “National centre for electronic services” and “Belarus railways”.
