Turkmenistan, Finland Discuss Trade-Economic Ties

Turkmen-Finnish consultations, held in a video conference format on Tuesday, analyzed the level of trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Finland.

The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev. The Finnish side was represented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan (with residence in Helsinki) Maria Elina Liivala and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The meeting participants, noting the presence of a solid potential for the progressive development of Turkmen-Finnish relations, agreed to look for mutually acceptable partnership mechanisms.

The parties expressed the interest of the two countries in developing relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields and stressed the importance of high-level visits in promoting interstate relations. To this end, the officials considered possibilities of organizing such visits in this year.

The sides discussed regional, including Afghan issues. The Turkmen side reaffirmed its view that peace in the neighboring country can only be achieved through political and diplomatic means.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Finland were established in 1992.
