Turkmenistan Considers Creation of Its Logistics Center in Astrakhan Oblast

Consul of Turkmenistan in Russia’s Astrakhan city Guych Garayev and Minister for Economic Development of the Oblast Kazbek Khadikov discussed the prospects for the creation of Turkmenistan’s logistics center in the oblast, official online portal of Astrakhan Oblast’s Government reported on Thursday.

Earlier, this topic was raised during online negotiations between Astrakhan’s Governor Igor Babushkin and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, the government portal said.

Turkmen Consul noted that in December 2020, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the country's Foreign Ministry to start practical steps to create a logistics center in the Astrakhan region.

The sides are currently studying the possibility of establishing the logistics center on the territory of the port special economic zone under construction in Astrakhan. The implementation of the project will contribute to an increase in freight traffic along the North-South corridor, according to the statement.

Russian Prime Minister signed a decree on the creation of a port special economic zone in the Astrakhan Region on November 7, 2020.
