Turkmenistan and TURKSOY Aim to Strengthen Cooperation

On 13 August 2024, in the framework of the visit to Turkey of the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) Sultan Raev.

During the meeting, a detailed exchange of views was held on joint events dedicated to the declaration of the ancient Turkmen city of Anew as “the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” and proclamation of 2024 as the “Year of the Great Poet and Thinker of the Turkic World - Magtymguly Fragi”.

The popularization of the works of the great poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, as well as the promotion of cultural significance of the ancient Turkmen city of Anew within TURKSOY, UNESCO and other international organizations was among the main topics of the meeting.

The parties also discussed the current condition and priorities for the development of cooperation. The sides noted the constructiveness of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with TURKSOY aimed at preserving, studying and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic-speaking peoples in the world.

The Turkmen delegation noted that Turkmenistan aims to expand fully cooperation with the International Organization of Turkic Culture.

Also, the members of the Turkmen delegation observed the exhibition of paintings and books dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen classical poet Magtymguly Fragi that took place at the TURKSOY headquarters.
