Turkmenistan and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have established diplomatic relations.The corresponding Joint Communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed on June 21, 2023 at the office of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations in New York.
The document was signed by Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN Dennis Francis, reported the Turkmen Foreign Ministry today.
During the negotiations held before the signing ceremony, the parties confirmed their interest in strengthening friendly relations between the two countries and developing bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation, as well as cooperation in international organizations.
Atayeva and Francis exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and also discussed issues on the UN agenda that are of interest to Turkmenistan and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, in particular, in the field of security, preventive diplomacy, etc.
The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations congratulated Ambassador D. Francis on his election as Chairman of the forthcoming 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
In turn, D. Francis congratulated the Government and people of Turkmenistan on the establishment of diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago, noting that this would strengthen and give impetus to the development of long-term cooperation between the countries at a higher level.
The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago became the 152nd country with which Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations.
