Turkmenistan and the EU discussed human rights at the 16th meeting of the Dialogue

On June 25, the 16th meeting of the Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union was held in Ashgabat. The meeting took place in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Olof Skoog, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of humanitarian law and human rights. An exchange of views took place on issues such as improving civil society, the rule of law and judicial reform, as well as cooperation in the fields of education, health, gender equality, protecting the rights of children and people with disabilities.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025. Issues of improving the law enforcement system and the activities of the Ombudsman Institute were discussed.

The participants also reviewed plans to implement joint projects between Turkmenistan and the EU in the near future.
