The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmengas” Murad Archayev, took part in the meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU Working Group on Energy in Brussels, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
At the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation in the gas industry were discussed, including diversification of supply routes for Turkmen natural gas, as well as the development of renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.
During the meeting, the parties considered the possibilities of practical cooperation in the field of reducing methane emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy. Turkmenistan reported on national achievements in the energy sector, legal framework, diversification efforts and commitment to environmentally friendly energy measures, including a solar energy project.
The delegation of Turkmenistan also held meetings with the Head of the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Energy, Stefano Grassi, and the Chief Advisor for Energy Diplomacy of the European External Action Service, Tibor Stelbatsky.
The historical context of relations between the EU and Central Asia, the energy potential of Turkmenistan, the possibility of increasing gas supplies to Europe, various infrastructure projects and mechanisms for cooperation in the energy sector were discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation in the development of renewable energy sources and the reduction of methane emissions. The importance of Turkmenistan joining the Global Methane Commitment, which the country announced at the COP28 climate conference in Dubai, was noted.
